Due to an error with The Sheraton hotel’s computer system we have had to rebook the convention for the previous weekend. The 1st Annual National Contestors Convention will now be held from September 21 – 23, 2007 at The Sheraton Centre in Toronto ON. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions or concerns please email us.

I speak with many people that want to know why some are able to harness the Law of Attraction and some are struggling with it. While searching for more Law of Attraction events I came across this good article answering that very question: Ten Ways We Hinder the Law of Attraction.

Do You Look Like Stephen Colbert?

If you do, this is a must enter promotion. Hurry as it ends at midnight on Tuesday March 13th. It is open to all of Canada. You also have to upload a video to YouTube. Five semi-finalists will be selected to face-off at Grin and Bear It in my hometown of Oshawa, ON on Tuesday March 20th. The grand prize winner will win a trip to New York City and a taping of The Stephen Colbert Report. Enter here.

UPDATE: Maple Leaf Foods

Since my last newsletter, CTV ran a Whistleblower segment on the Maple Leaf Foods contest problem. They didn’t solve the problem or bring anything new to light that was not already on the online message boards. I was disappointed because I thought CTV may be able to help solve the problem, not just create more suspicion.

Maple Leaf Foods is currently conducting a forensic investigation of their contesting data and they hope to have answers by the end of the month. If anyone has any questions regarding the promotion, their findings or anything else, contact their Customer Service department. In the meantime, they have decided to run a random draw promotion to win two gold bars. (Open to all of Canada.  One entry per person. Ends May 5th.)

My husband Craig wrote a blog on the topic from a technical perspective: The End of Flash in Promotional Marketing???

REMINDER: Book Signing at Chapters

I will be signing copies of my book at the Chapters Bayview Village store on Sunday March 25th starting at 2pm.

Media Appearances

I will be on Durham Daytime March 15th and on Good Morning Canada on March 17th (repeating on March 18th). I will be talking about Attracting Luck.

I have been selected and will be featured in the premier Canadian issue of MORE Magazine as one of Canada’s Top 40 Women over 40. WHOO HOO! Feels like a win!!

HAPPY CONTESTING,

Tips and Tricks

This hilarious tip was sent in by Joti from Whitby, ON.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Cleanliness has long been next to godliness for the hygiene-conscious Japanese, but fortune-tellers are now advising those who want to succeed in life to start by scrubbing the smallest room.

"Cleaning the Toilet to Attract Luck", published this month, is the latest in a series of books advising readers on how to attract good fortune using a brush and an array of cleaning fluids. "Don't just wipe the floor, polish it," the book instructs. "It's important to maintain a positive mood while cleaning."

The books are inspired by Buddhist teachings and feng shui, a traditional Chinese belief that people's fortunes are determined by their surroundings. The idea that Lady Luck may be hiding in the lavatory has been taken up by magazines and television programs. "I won the lottery! I married my ideal person! I got pregnant!" read some of the claims on the cover of another book on the topic, published last year.

The idea that a clean toilet can bring good fortune, or even make you more beautiful, has existed in Japan for many years, according to Yuka Soma of Makino Publishing in Tokyo, editor of one of the toilet books. But she is still waiting for a big stroke of luck. "I've always cleaned my toilet every day, so it never really gets dirty," she said. "At least it's easy that way and it probably helps keep my family healthy," she said.

Janet from Oshawa, ON submitted this article, Design Scout: Lucky Charms, on how to incorporate lucky charms from many cultures into your everyday home décor.

Hi Carolyn,
I am afraid to open anything in my Bulk mail because it might be a virus. I do receive many VERIFICATION notices in my Bulk mail. Is there a chance I might be opening TROUBLE instead of a notification?
Thank you for your advice on contests.
Gaynor

Hi Gaynor,
Before I delete any bulk mail, I scan the list quickly to see who they are from.
Once in awhile I recognize a "safe" name and unblock the email address.
I have never found a winning notification in my Spam folder but my husband has once and it was for a CD.
GOOD LUCK,
Carolyn
