OOPS! I forgot copy the name of the person who sent in this great question when I saved the original blog post draft. They wanted to know:
One more thing that is always on my mind when I read these…the sponsors gave away SIGNIFICANT prizes for the time. Many cars and $10,000 cash prizes, etc. I think there has been a decrease, inflation considered, in the number of prizes given at these prize values. Do you think this has to do with marketing budgets or the willingness to spend to get their product recognized at a time that manufactured products were on a big rise?
