Saturday, April 12th, found my daughter and I at The Michigan Wolverines’ Winners Sweepstakes Club Annual Spring Meeting. How fun!! This year’s theme was The Roaring 20’s.
Thursday April 10th
Nicole and I left late as I had an interview for a freelance contract at 10:00am. (I didn’t get it. Maybe next time … ) By 11:00am we were on the road heading to Detroit MI. As we left late and needed supplies, we stopped at Whole Foods to stock up and eat lunch.
TRAVEL TIP: To keep costs down when attending conventions, stock up on groceries (water bottles, apples, pears, granola bars, tea bags, etc.) so you can eat healthily when you are not in a position to have a proper meal.
Once we crossed the border we ran errands (my getting an AT&T pay-as-you-go card and getting Nicole some new clothes).
By then it was time for dinner. Nicole wanted chicken so I took her to Famous Dave’s and shared the Feast for One. YUMMY! We then checked into the Baymont Inn as our host arranges a special rate for all meeting attendees. Thankfully we weren’t too late and had time for a swim before turning in.
Friday April 11th
We slept in a wee bit, but not too late as we wanted to ensure we got the included breakfast.
TRAVEL TIP: Stay at a hotel that includes breakfast. Eat well and you only need a small lunch or the snacks you brought until dinner.
Nicole decided the Ford Museum looked boring and Greenfield Village didn’t open up until the next week, so we settled on sightseeing at the Cranbrook Institute of Science. On our way we bought our entries for the scratch-off lottery ticket raffle and had lunch at Noodles.
Cranbrook was a lot of fun and we spent the whole afternoon there looking at dinosaurs, rocks and bats, along with participating at all the environmental craft tables.
We returned in time for the pizza dinner Al Sayward throws for all the attendees staying at the hotel. Nicole even managed to get in another swim before bed. (I think she is part fish!)
Saturday April 12th
There was no sleeping in today as not only did we have to get breakfast, we had to get all dressed up!
As usual, there was a heaps of food and prizes!
After all the food, we had the costume contest.
Alokozay Tea gave me a wonderful gift pack to donate.
Nicole was the big winner as she won a wonderful Hershey bag in the Donation Drawing!
As we had a family christening the next day, we drove home straight from the meeting and we couldn’t hang out with friends that evening.
