To replace my online radio show, With The Contest Queen, I decided to hold mini virtual interviews.
1: Can you give us a brief history of the Wannawin contest website?
LL: Wannawin was created in 2004 and is the Anglophone version of the Toutacoup site, which was created in 2002. We’ve been posting new prizes for Canadians to win for almost 10 years. You can find more information through the About Us section at the bottom of the homepage.
2: I heard Wannawin is planning a redesign of the website. What new and exciting changes can the members expect to see?
LL: You can expect a lot of new changes in order for your experience on the site to be much better. There will be more prizes to win through more available contests. We will also have a shop where you can exchange your points for different products and prizes.
3: Does Wannawin have contests open to Americans? If not, will they be either opening their contests to Americans ot launching a U.S. website?
LL: Wannawin does not have any contests available to Americans and we’re not planning on opening them to the US in the future due to the different and complex rules in regards to contests across the United States.
4: What are the odds of winning a Wannawin contest? How many entries do you get per promotion?
LL: We receive on average about 15,500 participations and about 3,000 unique participants.
5: Why does it seem so hard to win? I’ve been entering every contest 7 days a week for exactly a whole year. It seems as though most of the winners come from Ontario. I live in Alberta.
LL: As we receive more contest entries from Ontario than Alberta, then we will receive more winners from that particular province. It also makes sense as the population of Ontario is much higher than that of Alberta. It is possible to win on Wannawin and multiple times too. 🙂
6: I have noticed many people from Quebec win your promotions. Why do so many Quebecois win when I know so many people outside that province enter?
LL: It’s because we have so many entries from Quebec compared to the other provinces.
NOTE FROM CQ: Since very few contests are open to Quebec, proportionally to the rest of Canada – due to provincial regulations – when one is, it is heavily entered by Quebec residents.
7: I would like to know if anyone ever wins? Perhaps when the site is revamped, the winners page could include a photo of the winner.
LL: It is possible to win and we definitely want to share more information about who wins. In the next version of the site, we will have a winner’s page with more information about who they are as well as a photo of them.
8: Why are the prizes so small? A $20 prize value for so much effort doesn’t seem worth the effort. Couldn’t they set a base prize limit at $50 and go up from there?
LL: Wannawin and Toutacoup actually offer on average about $70,000 in prizes per year. There are $20 gift cards available as well as higher value prizes, such as Ipads ($520) as well as trips in the south (about $3,000). We want to make sure that we offer varied prizes in order to please all of our members.
9: On the Wannawin website there is a clause that states: “You can earn points by participating in the contest or survey as well as by sending an invitation to a friend. Then, you can trade your points in order to increase your chances of winning the contest if you wish.” I have traded in points for some of the contests, but I don’t understand how that relates to an entry, for example, does one point equal one entry, or do ten points equal one entry? Please clarify the point per entry system.
LL: One entry equals one point. You can find more information about how it works on our FAQ page.
10: I only seem to win points/tokens points on the Wannawin slot machine and not gift certificates to the stores that are advertised on the site? What are the odds on the slot machine? How many gift cards are there available in a day/week/month?
LL: Presently, about 1 to 2 cards are available per week on the machine. However, this will significantly increase with the new version of the site.
11: Can I enter on both Toutacoup and Wannawin? Or is that against the rules?
LL: You can participate on both sites if you wish.
